Frequently Asked Questions
Below are answers to questions we hear often from travellers booking through Rodavia. The platform connects you with local suppliers across Mauritius; specifics about your rental appear in the voucher after confirmation.
How does the booking process work?
You select dates and vehicle category on the site, review what's included, then complete the booking advance payment. Within a few hours you receive a voucher by email with the supplier's name, their contact details, and exact pick-up instructions. The supplier handles the vehicle handover directly.
What information is on the voucher?
The voucher lists the supplier company, their telephone number and address, your booking reference, pick-up and drop-off times, the vehicle category reserved, and insurance coverage included. It also states any hold amount the supplier may authorise on a credit card at the desk, along with their fuel and mileage terms.
Can I change or cancel my reservation?
Amendments and cancellations follow the terms shown during checkout. Most bookings allow changes up to a certain number of hours before pick-up. Contact us by email at [email protected] or by phone, and we coordinate with the supplier. Refund eligibility depends on how far in advance you notify us.
What do I need when collecting the vehicle?
Bring the printed or mobile voucher, your passport, a valid driving licence held for the required period, and a credit card in the main driver's name. Some suppliers accept debit cards but most ask for a credit card to authorise a hold. The voucher will specify the supplier's exact requirements.
What are the driver age and licence requirements?
Drivers typically need to be at least twenty-one years old and have held a full licence for one year. Some vehicle categories require the driver to be twenty-five or older. International licences issued in non-Latin scripts should be accompanied by an International Driving Permit. Check the terms on your voucher for the specific supplier's policy.
How does fuel work?
Standard practice is full-to-full: you collect the vehicle with a full tank and return it full. Petrol stations operated by Engen, Shell and Total are common across the island. If you return the vehicle with less fuel, the supplier will charge for the missing litres plus a refuelling fee.
Can I drive anywhere on the island?
Mauritius roads are open to rental vehicles, including the M1 and M2 motorways and rural B-roads where you may meet sugar-cane lorries. Driving is on the left. Speed limits are typically forty in towns, sixty to eighty on secondary roads, and one-ten on motorways. Watch for cameras on the M1. Ferries to nearby islets sometimes have vehicle restrictions; check with the supplier if you plan to cross.
What happens if the flight is delayed?
Contact the supplier using the number on your voucher as soon as you know about the delay. Most suppliers near SSR airport at Plaine Magnien monitor arrivals and adjust handover times accordingly. If you booked pick-up elsewhere - Tamarin, Pereybere or another town - a quick call keeps everyone aligned and avoids confusion.
Who do I contact if there is a problem during the rental?
For roadside assistance, mechanical issues or accidents, telephone the supplier immediately - their emergency number is printed on the voucher and usually on the key fob. They dispatch help or arrange a replacement.
